Welcome!

The VARICRIS research project examines why varying crises expand or diminish governance capacities of international organizations (IOs). It integrates perspectives from international relations and public administration, and combines in-depth case studies of individual IOs with innovative text analysis / NLP approaches to generate large-N data on transboundary crises throughout the last three decades.

VARICRIS is headed by Prof. Dr. Christian Kreuder-Sonnen (FSU Jena) and Prof. Dr. Christian Rauh (WZB Berlin, University of Potsdam). The project is generously funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG; Project No. 560272666) and will kick off in April 2026.
