Teaching

Portfolio and approach

I have held teaching assignments and taken on supervision and examination roles at various German and European universities, conducted targeted sessions and block seminars at summer and graduate schools, and gained experience in running workshops and simulations for pupils at the pre-university level.

My teaching portfolio adapts to the needs of specific audiences and is closely tied to my research interests. I offer both introductory and specialized classes on European and EU politics, as well as on the functioning of representative democracy in multilevel settings. In terms of methods, I provide workshops on applied human- and (semi-)automated content and text analysis, often making use of open-source software and datasets.

Fostering analytical thinking about politics is the cornerstone of my teaching philosophy. Questions about politics can (and often should) be normatively motivated, but answering them ought to be as objective and systematic as possible.

Accordingly, I encourage students to reflect on the empirical implications of different perspectives and arguments. Especially at the university level, I also motivate them to collect and analyze empirical information or data on their own.

Term papers and theses

I am generally open to supervising research projects in the form of term papers or BA/MA theses, subject to the capacity of my Chair at the University of Potsdam. Before contacting me, please read the guidelines below carefully. They outline potential topic areas, basic requirements, and evaluation standards, and will help you assess whether your project fits within these parameters.
